Ingredients:

  • 250 grams unsalted butter (room temperature)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)

  • A pinch of salt (if using unsalted butter)

Instructions:

  1. Cream the Butter and Sugar:

    • In a mixing bowl, add the room-temperature butter and powdered sugar.

    • Beat well with a spoon or whisk until the mixture is light and creamy.

  2. Add Vanilla (Optional):

    • Add 1 tsp vanilla essence and mix well.

  3. Add Flour:

    • Gradually add the flour to the butter mixture.

    • Mix with a spatula or hand until it forms a soft dough.

    • If the dough feels too dry, add 1–2 tsp of milk (only if needed).

  4. Rest the Dough:

    • Cover and rest the dough for 15–30 minutes.

  5. Roll and Cut:

    • Roll out the dough on a flat surface (about ¼ inch thick).

    • Use cookie cutters to cut into your favorite shapes.

  6. Bake:

    • Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F).

    • Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

    • Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the edges are golden.

  7. Cool:

    • Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.

    • They will become crispier as they cool down.

Tips:

  • Store the cookies in an airtight container.

  • You can also add cardamom powder or a bit of milk powder for extra flavor.
