1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour

½ cup (100 g) sugar

4 large eggs, room temperature

2 tbsp (30 ml) warm milk

2 tbsp (28 g) unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 170°C (340°F). Grease and line an 8-inch (20 cm) round or square cake pan.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar with a mixer for 6–8 minutes until pale, thick, and tripled in volume.

Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture using a spatula.

Mix warm milk, melted butter, and vanilla, then carefully fold into the batter until just combined.

Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
