Ingredients
For the Crisps
- 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (60 g) potato starch (or cornstarch)
- 2 tbsp corn flour (optional, for extra crispness)
- 1 tbsp milk powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ½ cup (120 ml) warm water (adjust as needed)
Seasoning Mix
- 1 tsp fine salt
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp chili powder (optional, for extra heat)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, potato starch, corn flour, milk powder, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add the vegetable oil and warm water while mixing until a soft, smooth dough forms.
Step 2: Knead and Rest
Knead the dough for 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for 20 minutes. This makes it easier to roll out.
Step 3: Roll and Shape
Roll the dough into a very thin sheet, approximately 1–2 mm thick.
Using a small cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out even circles.
To create the signature Pringles-style curve, gently place each dough circle over a rolling pin or another curved, oven-safe mold.
Step 4: Cook the Crisps
Baking Method
- Preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F).
- Arrange the shaped crisps on a baking tray.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until lightly golden and crisp.
Frying Method
- Heat oil to 170–175°C (340–350°F).
- Fry the crisps for 30–45 seconds, or until crisp and lightly golden.
- Drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Season
While the crisps are still warm, sprinkle them with the prepared seasoning mixture.
Toss gently to coat each crisp evenly.
Step 6: Cool
Allow the crisps to cool completely. They will become even crispier as they cool.
Storage
Store the cooled crisps in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks to maintain their freshness and crunch.
Yield
Approximately 40–50 homemade Pringles-style crisps, depending on the size of your cutter.
Tips for the Best Homemade Crisps
- Roll the dough as thinly as possible for a light, crispy texture.
- Keep the dough circles uniform in size to ensure even cooking.
- Don’t overcrowd the baking tray or fryer.
- Experiment with different seasonings such as barbecue, sour cream & onion, cheese, or spicy chili for a variety of flavors.
- Allow the crisps to cool completely before storing to preserve their crispness.
Enjoy your homemade Pringles-style crisps as a crunchy snack on their own or serve them alongside your favorite dips for an extra treat.
